David Karanja
Born in 1984, Kikuyu tribe
Job: conductor of matatu (local public transport)
David is my key-man and real friend on Tulaga road, helped me to translate from swahilli and kikuyu language to english and guided me in rural areas. His street career started in the half of the nineties, few years after his mother was killed by Maasai. Left his village heading to Nairobi. First he worked as a garbage boy or porter, separated waste, sometimes filled boredom by snuffing glue. But his stamina led him to better life and better job. Now, without any drugs (for many years) works as a conductor, having wife and daughter, living in a small rented house still doing better and better...
